The mission of the Alameda County Law Library is to provide free public access to authoritative legal information sources. To support this mission, the Law Library subscribes to a variety of premium legal research databases, which the public can use free of charge. Library visitors can access subscribed legal databases and government websites from the library’s Research Computers. Visitors can also access government websites and some of the subscribed legal databases from their personal wireless devices by connecting to the Law Library’s wireless network (LAW_LIBRARY_WIFI). Once connected to LAW_LIBRARY_WIFI, links to available legal databases and websites are provided on the Alameda County Law Library website.
Wireless is available at the Law Library to gain access to select legal databases and government websites for legal research while in the library. To conserve bandwidth and protect the security of the library’s wireless network, certain entertainment, streaming and social media websites are disabled. Open WiFi is available at the Oakland Public Library, which is located 2 blocks from the Law Library at 125 14th Street. The Law Library has an Internet Computer available to those needing brief access to the general internet for law-related activities. A 20-minute Internet Ticket is required to sign-on to the Internet Computer.
